UW Extension Tar Spot and White Mold Updates Scheduled for Dec 9 and 10 at Mauston and Centerville

The later part of the growing season saw significant outbreaks of tar spot in corn fields and white mold in soybean fields across the state.  West central Wisconsin had some of the more severe and widespread outbreaks in the 2021 growing season.

To help farmers prepare for the 2022 growing season UW Extension is hosting two workshops in the area to specifically address tar spot and white mold management.  Dr. Damon Smith, UW Extension Plant Pathologist, will present information and data from recent tar spot and white mold epidemics and considerations for planning for next year’s crops.  The workshops will last approximately 2 hours with the first hour being on tar spot and the second hour will address white mold.  There is no charge to attend the workshops.

The December 9th workshop at Mauston will start at 1:00 pm and wrap up at approximately 3:00 p.m. It will be held in room 200 of the Juneau County Courthouse, located at 220 E. State St.  Pre-register for the workshop by contacting the Juneau County Extension Office at 608-847-9329 or e-mail mary.nuttall@wisc.edu. This workshop will also be available remotely via a live ZOOM broadcast option.  To pre-register for the zoom go to the following website: https://go.wisc.edu/o2p4y6.

The December 10th workshop will be held at the Centerville Curling Club at Centerville, with a street address of W24854 Wi Hwy 54 Galesville, WI.  The workshop will run from 10:00 am to noon.  To pre-register for this workshop contact the Trempealeau County Extension Office at: 715-538-2311 ext. 208 or e-mail steven.okonek@wisc.edu.
