Home Food Preservation & Pressure Canner Testing

Don’t forget to have the dial gauge on your pressure canner tested.  It is recommended to have this gauge tested every year. It is not necessary to test weighted gauge canners. Extension Sauk County can test your pressure canner on-site at no charge, or we offer a list of canning resources where you can learn about other locations to have your canner tested.

How to schedule a pressure canner test: Call Extension Sauk County’s main office at (608) 355-3250 to arrange a time for your equipment to be tested. Please bring in the lid of the canner with the gauge attached. The Sauk County office will inspect the sealing gasket and other parts for wear and tear.

Extension offers free research-tested recipes and tips for safely preserving the bounty of your farm or garden.  The following publications are available for download using the links below or print copies can be obtained through the Sauk County Extension Office.

Quick Tip: Farmers Market Vendors

Wisconsin has a vibrant local foods culture, and you are sure to find customers eager for your products. Be sure to follow the rules that govern preparation and sale to help ensure public health and protect your brand!

Note: In spite of what many web sites say, Wisconsin does not have a cottage food law. Vendors must comply with Wisconsin regulations to sell in the state.
